Memorial Day Ride - Sosebee Bicycle Park

This ride was posted on atlbike.org and since I had not ridden up in the Cartersville area since last September, I decided to make the drive.  Well, I didn't feel so good getting ready.  Should've listened to what my body was sayin'.  Drove up to Sosebee Park and several riders were already there.  Sosebee Park is a park created specifically for bicycle riders.  Chris Sosebee has graciously turned a big chunk of his property into a great place for cyclists.  Since my last visit, Chris has added 2 changing rooms on top of the porta-potty and water already available.  I knew only a handful of the riders, but we headed out about 8:30.  Rode with the main group until we started hitting some of the hills.  That's when I really knew I wasn't near 100%.

Promptly fell off the pace.  Had planned on doing the 50 mile route, but knew a change of plan was required.  Took my time the rest of the way to the 31 mile route turn-off.  After a brief rest, I headed back to Sosebee Park.  Beautiful route as usual and the wind was picking up.  Hated to be pulling up short, but there was no way I was going to slog it out for the 50 miles.

Golfing at Stonebridge (Rome, GA)

Played Stonebridge Golf Club located north of Rome, GA yesterday with some friends from work on a special tee time deal.  Had always wanted to play there, but yesterday was the first time.  Nice place!  They are on their first full summer after switching their bentgrass greens to Championship Bermuda.  I must say these were the nicest (and fastest!) greens I have played on in a while.  Smooth as silk.  Not many ballmarks on a bermuda green; the root structure is very thick but the golf balls will "stick" if you spin them.

Man, it was hot but I seem to play better when it is hot.  Shot 86 with a double bogey on the 18th and a stupid triple on front side for playing...well...stupidly!

This makes 3 times in 2 weeks I have played 18 holes of golf.  With all the cycling going on, it seemed like I was semi-retired from golf.  Funny thing is, Stonebridge is right near where the Up the Creek Without a Pedal cycling ride was held 2 weeks ago.  I seem to be going to Rome a lot lately.
